Changing DNS servers in Helix Fi
This question has been asked in 2 other threads on this forum in 2023 and 2025 with the only solutions being to either change the DNS setting on each device connected to the Helix gateway or to buy a router and connect to the gateway in bridged mode. I have a better suggestion: Videotron developers *finally* update the Helix Fi app by adding an "Edit" button on the DNS server page to allow paying customers to change it there. How hard can that be? We can edit other features on the gateway like the DMZ, so why not the DNS settings?? I get that the hardware runs on Comcast's Xfinity xFi platform which locks down advanced networking configurations to prioritize ecosystem integration, support simplicity, and security over user customization. In light of that, just add a check box next to a statement that says something like: "I understand that changing the default DNS settings may cause Vidéotron Helix services (including Helix TV, parental controls, and advanced security features) to malfunction or stop working entirely. I agree that Vidéotron is not responsible for any service disruptions caused by custom DNS configurations, and that Vidéotron technical support cannot assist in troubleshooting network issues arising from these changes. I assume full responsibility for managing my custom network settings." I would be willing to check that box!grajewski11-07-2026Initiate21Vues0like1CommentaireBlock incoming connections and ports - ZyXEL EMG2926-Q10A
Greetings, On the Videotron modem ZyXEL EMG2926-Q10A, does anyone know how to block all incoming traffic (from the internet to the modem) and how to lock all ports from incoming connections? When login into the modem via a web browser and the clicking on: Expert Mode > Configuration (left side of the screen) > Security > Firewall > Services > Add firewall rule , I cannot find the option for “incomming” traffic or “outgoing” traffic. There is only the “Source_IP_Address” which I suspect is the way to block the incomming connections to the modem. From my point of view, one would have to list all IP addresses as “source” by stating an IP address range such as 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255. 1) Is that the way to block incoming connections to the router? 2) What is the correct way to type/state an IP address range in the EMG2926-Q10A? Regarding blocking the ports on the modem from incoming connections: 3) is that within: Expert Mode > Configuration > Security > Firewall > Services > Add firewall rule > SourcePortRange that ports 0 to 65535 have to be typed in to prevent people outside the network from scanning/using ports on the modem? Lastly, its not clear if creating a firewall rule (as stated above; “Add a firewall rule”) will create a rule that “allows” or “block” the traffic. 4) Does firewall rules block or allow traffic?
---- This topic has come up several times over the years, with varying degrees of resolution. I think many customers—especially those of us in the tech industry—have been waiting for a clear and official response from Videotron regarding IPv6 support on client-managed border routers and firewalls. For anyone beyond the most basic home setup, the Helix gateway is often not used as the primary border router or firewall. Many customers rely on more advanced solutions such as Unifi Gateway, pfSense, OPNsense, IPFire, or VyOS. With IPv4, this works perfectly fine when the Helix modem is placed in bridge mode. IPv6, however, is still unresolved. There was a period when Videotron offered 6rd as a workaround, but many users reported inconsistent results, which may explain why it was eventually discontinued. Fast-forward to 2026, and there still does not appear to be a documented or supported solution. Yet one clearly exists in some form, since the Helix gateway is capable of provisioning IPv6 when operating in router mode. This raises a simple question: why is the required configuration for bridge mode not publicly documented? TL;DR In 2026, how can a customer using a Helix gateway in bridge mode configure IPv6 on their own firewall/router hardware?vic10us08-06-2026Initiate109Vues0like2CommentairesJusqu'a 30ms + de jitter

Hello Can anyone tell me if this previous thread/topic is still being discussed. I can't seem to access it. Getting access denied. Either it's gone or for some reason I don't have the permission to view it. I am dealing with this issue currently where my two email accounts seem to timeout and I get an error synchroniztion message on my PC and laptop though at times it goes through. If you hit send & receive repeatedly you will get some success. What is the latest on this? Thank you.carmax1723-02-2026Squire474Vues1like6CommentairesSynology NAS crashes my Helix gateway
I'm hoping that someone can help me find a solution to my problem. A little context: I've been with Vidéotron for over 20 years, prior to moving to their Helix service I had their legacy Hybrid Fibre Internet and never had a problem. I was using my own routers and everything was working well. When the technician installed my Helix gateway I asked him to set it up in bridge mode since I wanted to keep using my routers. After the installation everything seemed to be fine for a couple of days; then the problems started. The internet would go down so I'd check the gateway to find that the light was red. I would unplug it, plug it back in and the internet connection would come back. This lasted another few days and it would go down again. Some days I would have to reset it 4-5 times. I called customer support and they told me the problem was on my end since the gateway was in bridge mode. I explained that my setup had not changed, save for the new gateway, and I had no issues with the previous modem. They explained that it was different since Helix combines the modem and the router and offered no real help. After several months of dealing with this very annoying inconvenience I decided to reset the Helix gateway to it's factory settings and only use that for my home network. After setting up everything the issue started happening again. This time I knew that it wasn't because of my routers so I started eliminating other devices. I determined that the problem was caused by my Synology NAS. This is actually a "faux" Synology NAS, meaning that I'm using open source software called Xpenology to run the Synology DSM software on a regular computer. So, whenever I plug my NAS into the network it crashes the Helix gateway. Sometimes it's almost immediate whereas some other times it can stay up for an hour or so. I've played around with different settings on the NAS and turned off most of the services but that didn't resolve the issue. What I tried today and what seems to be working so far, is leaving the gateway field blank in the NAS network settings so that I can still access it locally but it can't reach out to the internet. I apologize for the very long post and if you've made it this far I want to thank you for reading this. Does anyone have any suggestions? PS. I hooked up my NAS to my dad's Helix gateway and it ran fine for about 10-15 minutes. I realize now that I should have left it connected for at least a few hours.electro90711-01-2026Initiate255Vues0like5CommentairesReliable Cat Pregnancy Calculator for Cat Owners

Estimating insulation work can be challenging, especially when drawings don’t clearly show thickness, coverage areas, or material types. Missing small details in plans often leads to incorrect quantities, budget overruns, or performance issues later in the project. I’m curious how others ensure insulation estimates stay accurate from the planning stage. Many professionals rely on insulation estimating services in USA to convert drawings into detailed takeoffs and precise cost breakdowns for thermal and acoustic insulation systems. These services help identify overlooked areas early and improve confidence in project budgets. Have you used professional insulation estimating services before? I’d like to hear how they affected estimate accuracy and overall project execution.junipereva19-12-2025Initiate86Vues0like0CommentaireLooking to move to Helix but want to keep using our own router
Hi! I've seen some similar discussions as this one but that are a bit older. Also, first time posting:) We are looking to move to Helix and we would have one terminal to be used with our TV, which is not a smart tv:) However, for the wifi, I want to keep our own router. What options do we have? I read some info on videotron.com about enabling bridge mode on the gateway but this disables wifi. At the same time, I'm assuming that the tv terminal can only work with the gateway. Does this mean that the only option would be to connect the tv terminal with a network cable? Or is there another option. I would like to keep things as is with our own router. Found some info on the internet about issues with double NAT and having to remove DHCP from your own router, which is not an option:) Thank you very much!notastechasb403-12-2025Initiate793Vues0like4CommentairesAutomation Isn’t Impossible—Even on Platforms Like Salesforce
Hello, EZPassMA I recently spoke with a company evaluating QA solutions for their Salesforce-based SaaS product. When I mentioned automation, they replied with something I’ve heard many times before: “We’re avoiding automation because Salesforce uses dynamic IDs—so it’s basically impossible.” That statement really resonated with me, because I’ve seen the opposite firsthand. Salesforce automation isn’t effortless, but it’s far from unachievable. I’ve managed a long-term Salesforce automation initiative using TestComplete, and while it definitely required a thoughtful approach, a solid framework made the entire process stable and repeatable. Salesforce isn’t unique in this regard. Many large, customizable SaaS platforms get labeled as “too complex” to automate—whether due to shifting DOM structures, dynamic attributes, evolving UIs, or deeply layered components. These challenges can make automation feel overwhelming if you approach it with simple record-and-playback tools or without the right strategy. But with the right patterns—robust locators, smart abstraction, component-based frameworks, and proactive maintenance—even the most complicated cloud platforms can be automated reliably. Not easy, but absolutely possible.jack064walker24-11-2025Initiate97Vues0like1CommentaireVideotron cause Disconnect in League of Legends only?

Hi everyone, With more people switching to VoIP and internet-based telephony, I’m curious how much customization you do with your service. For example, do you use personalized ringtones (klingeltone) for different contacts or situations, or do you stick with the standard tones provided by default? It seems like such a small feature, but in practice, having custom sounds can make internet telephony feel more personal and even more efficient. I’d love to hear how others here approach this—do you think it’s just a fun extra, or actually an important part of the user experience?avankita29-08-2025Initiate149Vues0like2Commentaires
