Helix internet with modem other than Helix Gateway?
Hi, I want to subscribe to helix 400mbit internet, which would of course require the purchase of a helix gateway. Helix gateway is basically the Arris/Technicolor XB6. Based on comments from XB6 users in the US (comcast) and Canada (rogers and shaw) i would rather use a modem other than the XB6. - with bridge mode on, MOCA doesn't work - with bridge mode on, wifi doesn't work.... for the user. The modem still broadcasts 4 hidden wifi networks that cannot be disabled (2 in 2.4ghz, 2 in 5ghz) that add to wifi congestion/interference. Some say this is needed for tv functionality, but I will never subscribe to the tv service, so why can't i turn it off? Question Is there any other type of modem that can be used with the Helix 400mbit service? Ideally I'd be looking for something that is modem only. Don't care if I need to buy it, I just need it to work.
Problem with Wireless Network Adapter
I have a wireless adapter from D-link, DWA-182 and it feels like these things were made specifically to stop working after a year of usage or something like that. I've been using adapters for two years now. I got my first one from d-link two years ago, not even one year later it started doing weird stuff and I bought another one. It's been working perfectly until recently. So, first of all, I experience extremely high latency (300-400 ping). Second of all, it disconnects at random times, and when it disconnects, in the settings, at "Network status" I see "Hamachi Private Network" as if it were connected via Lan. Now, I know Hamachi is used for creating virtual Lan networks but I've been using it for a long time and I never had issues with it. And besides this, the program is not even open. And if I were to uninstall it, there's just nothing at "network status", so I don't think Hamachi is the problem.
EMG2926 as a wireless repeater for ASUS router
Hello Is it possible to use the EMG2926 as a repeater for an ASUS router ? Based on the manual it seems the main router needs to also be a Zyxel EMG2926 in "Root AP mode". Or can it be any other brand? My situation is I want to connect a PC with an ethernet cable to the EMG2926 which would connect wirelessly as a repeater to my main router (ASUS), giving my wired PC access to the Internet and to my Wifi LAN.
Is internet provider generally the best choice for VoIP QoS?
How can I measure the lagginess of various 3rd-party VoIP providers? Has anyone compiled a list of IP addresses that I can ping, before choosing one? I have some cool POTS equipment in my house, such as a payphone in my garage, with a big honking LED caller ID display mounted above it. I want whatever POTS-to-VoIP adapter I buy / get to handle the loads of it and about 2-3 other legacy telephony devices. Presently I am considering the Obi200, which has 1 RJ11 jack. Do you think I could not have done that, and have it work as expected? I also found that it was so easy to use both "internet" and "LAN" jacks, too, and I could not figure out why it would need both.
