Unlimited Music
So with the recent CRTC ruling, anyone know what the plans are for those of us that currently use the unlimited music service? Will Videotron keep fighting with the CRTC or in lieu of that will they increase our data allowances?
Hello mrhud,
The CRTC's decision on the unlimited music option was that it violated the neutrality of the web, thus asking the company to withdraw or modify its service to meet the policy. We believe in Unlimited Music as well as being tailored to the needs and interests of today's consumers.
A temporary block of 8 GB of data has indeed been added to our customers affected by the withdrawal of Unlimited Music in their original plan. The goal is to soften the transition. This is a provisional situation.
As explained in the letter sent to customers impacted by the withdrawal of Unlimited Music, we will compensate this change by adding to their package a free additional data block, the number of GB of which will correspond to their consumption of Unlimited Music over the last 12 months.
If there is anything you would like to discuss about your current mobile plan, we invite you to contact our customer service at 1-800-641-3171.

Hi Mrhud,
I think they will offer more data for the people using it :
"However, Videotron filed a review application with the CRTC today in order to minimize the impact on customers who are already using the service. Videotron is asking the CRTC to permit measures that would allow customers who are enjoying the service launched two years ago a smooth and advantageous transition. Videotron shares the CRTC’s commitment to putting Canadian consumers first."

Thanks Yass05
Your post refers to Videotrons reply of May 25. I am referring the CRTC's decision on June 15 (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2017/lt170615.htm) denying Videotrons request to essentially try and figure out what to do. The CRTC decided that Videotron has until August to comply with the decision.

Unlimited music is maintained until further notice.
That decision is rather unfortunate and Videotron will most likely send out some sort of message information us of their decision.

Hi,
Unfortuntely, the "temporary" 8GB data was not articulated very well. Myself and three other Videtron customers, I had talked to, had never received any notification that the +8GB was temporary when it was implemented.
I have since received a text from Videtron stating the +8GB was only temporary and it would be reduced to the amount identified on the physical letter I had received earlier this summer. Less than a week after the text, my billing cycle occured, I have lost the +8GB, but received the +1GB per the physical letter.
People who did not exploit the "unlimited" usage are the ones to receive the least benefit (i.e. +1GB). Chances are the folks are never going to hit their new data limit. So what was the harm of leaving the +8GB? It is/was a huge public relations coup for Videotron against their competitors.
With the added data, people would never give up their Videotron plan and switch to a competitor. You would retain all those custormers. Now, those folks with +1GB, will just wait until the next best offer comes along. There won't be a call to customer retention/service, but rather a visit to a competitor's store, start a plan there, and simply port the phone number, resulting in the cancellation of the previous plan.
Yes, if everyone used the new data capacity to the limit, you might have network capacity issues, but chances of that are mid-to-low (given that people don't usually change their habits). While I understand the risks associated with network data capacity management, you could have also split the difference and move all users to +4GB. Everyone is treated the same and not reward the ones that expoited the "unlimited" usage.
I believe Videtron dropped the ball on this in the form of custormer retention and satisfaction.
Just my $0.02.

Hi feedoy8,
We added the temporary 8 GB add-on in order to make the transition to your compensatory Data Add-on in our systems. That was stated at the bottom of the letter you received this summer: "In the weeks following August 4, 2017, your Customer Centre account or invoice may show more data consumption than is included in your plan. This will allow Videotron to continue offering you the best mobile experience as we update all accounts affected by this change. This error will be adjusted in the coming weeks, without any impact on your invoice. Should you change your plan, from one that included Unlimited Music to another, you may not be eligible for this offer."
We believe the permanent Data Add-on is fair since this is calculated on your highest monthly music usage made between June 2016 and May 2017.
Thank you!
