20 SujetsSynology NAS crashes my Helix gateway
I'm hoping that someone can help me find a solution to my problem. A little context: I've been with Vidéotron for over 20 years, prior to moving to their Helix service I had their legacy Hybrid Fibre Internet and never had a problem. I was using my own routers and everything was working well. When the technician installed my Helix gateway I asked him to set it up in bridge mode since I wanted to keep using my routers. After the installation everything seemed to be fine for a couple of days; then the problems started. The internet would go down so I'd check the gateway to find that the light was red. I would unplug it, plug it back in and the internet connection would come back. This lasted another few days and it would go down again. Some days I would have to reset it 4-5 times. I called customer support and they told me the problem was on my end since the gateway was in bridge mode. I explained that my setup had not changed, save for the new gateway, and I had no issues with the previous modem. They explained that it was different since Helix combines the modem and the router and offered no real help. After several months of dealing with this very annoying inconvenience I decided to reset the Helix gateway to it's factory settings and only use that for my home network. After setting up everything the issue started happening again. This time I knew that it wasn't because of my routers so I started eliminating other devices. I determined that the problem was caused by my Synology NAS. This is actually a "faux" Synology NAS, meaning that I'm using open source software called Xpenology to run the Synology DSM software on a regular computer. So, whenever I plug my NAS into the network it crashes the Helix gateway. Sometimes it's almost immediate whereas some other times it can stay up for an hour or so. I've played around with different settings on the NAS and turned off most of the services but that didn't resolve the issue. What I tried today and what seems to be working so far, is leaving the gateway field blank in the NAS network settings so that I can still access it locally but it can't reach out to the internet. I apologize for the very long post and if you've made it this far I want to thank you for reading this. Does anyone have any suggestions? PS. I hooked up my NAS to my dad's Helix gateway and it ran fine for about 10-15 minutes. I realize now that I should have left it connected for at least a few hours.72Vues0like2Commentairesmonitoring Bandwidth usage of devices
Hi all, I am totally new to Videotron home internet and i am so far so happy with it, specially the speed! my service was installed yesterday morning, today i checked the usage at 7 am in the mobile app and it says 10 GB of download (!) which 5 of it was between midnight and 4am which doesn't seem right as long as i didn't run any updates or ... during the night. I just want to know if there is any way i make sure what was that weird internet usage about? maybe a trick that i can monitor all of my devices' bandwidth usage? regards soheilRésolu8,5 kVues0like5CommentairesIs bridge mode really passthru?
I just switched from regular modem from videotron to Helix. I have put helix in bridge mode. Since then, I am not able to connect to my FTP server at home. When connecting the helix portal via the web interface, nothing is related to firewall. And since I am in bridge mode, I cannot use the Helix app. So Is there anything I am missing?472Vues0like5CommentairesImproving VoIP Stability While Traveling – Stag VPN Experience

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a quick tip for those who rely on VoIP or internet calling services while traveling or working remotely. I've been using Stag VPN recently to stabilize my internet connection during calls, especially over public or shared networks.

Before using it, I often had call drops or jitter issues with my internet telephony setup. But with Stag VPN, the connection feels more stable and secure. It routes traffic efficiently and helps avoid ISP throttling or region-based disruptions.

Anyone else here tried using a VPN for internet calling? Would love to hear your experience or other recommendations!

Tags: #VoIP, #VPN, #StagVPN, #InternetCalling, #RemoteWork
94Vues0like1CommentaireHelix Bandwidth Monitoring
Hi, We have just switched to Helix and I find frustrating the fact that the Arris TG4482a they use does not provide any sort of performance monitoring like bandwidth usage in real time or logs that are giving a little bit more than an empty page for the system log for example. Anybody was able to extract bandwidth usage or logs in realtime through UPNP or any other means?Résolu86Vues0like1CommentaireHome telephone via Helix box
The customer service people keep pushing me to switch to the Helix service. Are there any updates on supporting the home phone via the Helix box, or will I still need a separate modem for that? And how is the pricing arranged? I currently have discounts for combined subscriptions to internet, phone and TV.Résolu136Vues0like1CommentaireNot getting the upload speed I’m supposed to have

I can't find any mentions of this anywhere... How am I able to set up my helix 2 borne as a router only? I know about bridge mode but that is if I want to use another router and use the helix 2 as a modem. If I leave Vidéotron will the modem portion of the router stop working as the service is cancelled and the router will keep working? or will the whole thing not work as I am no longer with Vidéotron? Thank youRésolu11 kVues0like7Commentaires
