Looking to move to Helix but want to keep using our own router
Hi!
I've seen some similar discussions as this one but that are a bit older. Also, first time posting:)
We are looking to move to Helix and we would have one terminal to be used with our TV, which is not a smart tv:)
However, for the wifi, I want to keep our own router. What options do we have?
I read some info on videotron.com about enabling bridge mode on the gateway but this disables wifi. At the same time, I'm assuming that the tv terminal can only work with the gateway.
Does this mean that the only option would be to connect the tv terminal with a network cable?
Or is there another option.
I would like to keep things as is with our own router. Found some info on the internet about issues with double NAT and having to remove DHCP from your own router, which is not an option:)
Thank you very much!

You should be able to keep your own router without too many issues. A lot of people use bridge mode on the Helix gateway and then connect their personal router normally for better control over their network settings. I was comparing different online systems recently and found some useful public data through property tax lookup while researching service areas and infrastructure details. For the TV terminal, using Ethernet is usually the most stable setup, especially if you want to avoid Wi-Fi conflicts or double NAT problems.

That’s a good question—bridge mode setups often confuse people because of how the gateway handles routing and WiFi separation. While researching different service setups, I also came across useful reference material here Court Case Search which explains how structured access systems work in detail. In most cases, keeping your own router means you’ll rely on a single active DHCP source to avoid conflicts. For TV terminals, wired connection usually stays the most stable option when the gateway is in bridge mode. Hope this helps you figure out a clean setup without double NAT issues.

I’ve been using a similar setup for a while, and bridge mode definitely makes the network much cleaner and easier to manage. Keeping your own router gives better control over performance and coverage, especially in larger homes. I was recently checking some online resources while organizing my home network and came across for reviewing Property Records Lookup information, which was surprisingly useful for address-related searches. Ethernet for the TV terminal is still the best option if stability matters most, but Wi-Fi usually works well too with a strong router.

Hello!
You can keep your own router with Videotron Helix by putting the Helix gateway in bridge mode, which disables its Wi‑Fi but avoids double NAT issues. Your router will then handle all DHCP and wireless connections, and the Helix TV terminal can connect through your e-zpasswv router either by Ethernet (most stable) or Wi‑Fi. In short, bridge mode + your router = clean setup, and the TV terminal works fine without relying on the gateway’s Wi‑Fi.
