Yes, in the context of a router or gateway, bridge mode acts as a passthrough, disabling the device's routing, NAT, and Wi-Fi functions so it functions as a simple modem or switch to pass traffic to another router. While some devices use the term "IP passthrough" as an alternative, true bridge mode completely turns the device into a "dumb" modem, allowing a primary router to manage the network and receive the public IP address.

Bridge mode works, but the gateway's wifi radios are not disabled. The gateway keeps broadcasting a couple internal hidden wifi networks on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. These have hidden SSIDs, so only seen with a wifi scanner, but they do use wifi bandwidth and can interfere with your router.
So it works, but unfortunately not a "true bridge mode".
