Looking to move to Helix but want to keep using our own router

Hi!

I've seen some similar discussions as this one but that are a bit older.  Also, first time posting:)

We are looking to move to Helix and we would have one terminal to be used with our TV, which is not a smart tv:)

However, for the wifi, I want to keep our own router.  What options do we have?

I read some info on videotron.com about enabling bridge mode on the gateway but this disables wifi.  At the same time, I'm assuming that the tv terminal can only work with the gateway.

Does this mean that the only option would be to connect the tv terminal with a network cable?

Or is there another option.

I would like to keep things as is with our own router.  Found some info on the internet about issues with double NAT and having to remove DHCP from your own router, which is not an option:)

Thank you very much!

  • Hello!

You can keep your own router with Videotron Helix by putting the Helix gateway in bridge mode, which disables its Wi‑Fi but avoids double NAT issues. Your router will then handle all DHCP and wireless connections, and the Helix TV terminal can connect through your e-zpasswv router either by Ethernet (most stable) or Wi‑Fi. In short, bridge mode + your router = clean setup, and the TV terminal works fine without relying on the gateway’s Wi‑Fi.
