unstable Internet connection

We recently had our modem / router combo changed due to internet connection. We are still having the same issues. 

I have my desk in the same room as the modem / router and keep losing my connection. If I go sit outside, I lose connection all together even though I'm only 3 feet away from the modem / router. 

Any suggestions on how to get it stable?
