Service in Canada coming from the EU

My son will be coming to study in Montreal for 3 years.  Will be in the country about 9 months out of the year.  What is a reasonably priced package for a cell phone service?  

I will be in Montreal for about 10 days - what do you suggest for me to use during this short time?
