Helix & PBS - Which channel will Helix choose when similar multiple channels exist.
Hi, My mother-in-law had PBS on channel 32 (there was another, non-subscribed PBS channel at 3). When she says PBS, Helix goes to the unsubscribed channel.
Question: Is it possible to specify which PBS channel the 'PBS' keyword is assigned to?
Related question: Can you define a keyword (say 'English Soccer') to go to a specific channel? To go to a specific Helix App?
Thanks.
On Helix TV, voice commands work by matching either the channel name or the channel number. For example, saying “PBS” will default to whichever PBS channel Helix recognizes first, which is why it’s pulling up the unsubscribed one. You can override this by saying the channel number (e.g., “Channel 32”) or the specific station name (like “PBS Vermont” if listed that way). Unfortunately, Helix doesn’t let you manually reassign or customize the keyword “PBS” to a specific channel.
As for creating custom keywords like “English Soccer” to jump to a channel or app, Helix doesn’t currently support user‑defined voice shortcuts. You can only use the built‑in commands: channel names/numbers, app names (like “YouTube”), or playback controls.

When providers face similar channel options, the decision usually depends on audience demand, content quality, and long-term licensing value. Comparing viewer engagement data and regional preferences can make a big difference before finalizing the lineup. It’s similar to how detailed insights from help users better understand Broward County valuation trends before making property decisions. A strategic, data-driven comparison will likely guide Helix toward the option that delivers the strongest overall viewership and value.
