Discovering Helix: Your voice remote
Voice command is definitely the star of all the Helix TV system’s new features. In fact, it’s hard to miss, since you’ll find the feature’s button right in the centre of your remote. Simply press this button, ask for something and Helix will show you content that meets your needs. In my experience, voice recognition has proven to be very effective. The system almost always understands what I want. You can make a wide range of requests, like finding a channel, fast-forwarding or going back during a program or bringing up Carey Price’s latest stats. Don’t worry, you need to enable voice command manually, meaning your remote isn’t always listening to you. You must hold down the button while giving a command; only then does the remote listen to your voice. Here are a few commands you can try out. If you have a compatible iOS or Android device, you should try the Helix app. It has some great features. You can use the app to watch your content on different screens (tablet, phone). This mobility allows you to program your recordings remotely and even watch them from wherever you are. The feature I find the most interesting is that you can download content to watch it later without using data. So you can download episodes from your favourite show and watch them on your mobile device without using up your data. Not only is that cost saving, it’s also really useful if you’re somewhere with poor coverage or on the plane. Try it out!
