What is Wi-Fi Calling?
Wi-Fi Calling enables you to make calls and text using a Wi-Fi network.
This service has several advantages:
- Allows you to call and text even when the mobile signal is weak.
- Reduces roaming charges while travelling.
- Avoids having to use third-party apps, such as WhatsApp or Messenger, to communicate.
How to enable the Wi-Fi Calling feature
- Update your phone’s operating system.
- Activate the VoLTE feature.
- Follow the steps for your device model:
iPhone
- Go to Settings and select Apps, then Phone.
- Select Wi-Fi Calling.
- Enable the feature by sliding the button to green.

Samsung
- Open the Phone app and tap the three dots in the upper right corner to display more options.
- Select Settings.
- Tap the button next to Wi-Fi Calling to enable the feature.

Others (Android)
- Go to Settings and select Network and Internet or Mobile Networks.
- Depending on the model, select Mobile Data, Mobile Network, or SIMs > Videotron.
- Select Wi-Fi Calling.
- Tap the button at the top to enable or disable the feature.
Setting up or changing an address for emergency services
Emergency services use the cellular network to locate you. To give priority to this network when calling 911, turn off your Wi-Fi before calling.
However, if you are using Wi-Fi to call 911, emergency services will use the address set up in your phone’s Wi-Fi Calling settings to locate you.
In the Wi-Fi Calling settings on your phone, select Emergency address or Update Emergency Address.
Using Wi-Fi Calling
When Wi-Fi Calling is enabled and you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, your calls and text messages automatically go through the Wi-Fi network.
However, the service may not work if you are connected to a Wi-Fi network:
- On which there are usage restrictions
- Distributed by satellite
- Created using a hotspot

I get an error message when I call 811 or another service number while using Wi-Fi Calling. What should I do?
Some telephone services, such as 211, 311, 511, and 811, establish communication over the cellular network. Turn off your device’s Wi-Fi before calling these numbers.
Can I use Wi-Fi Calling when travelling in Canada or abroad?
Of course! You can use the service anywhere in Canada and in eligible destinations as long as you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. See terms of use and eligible countries and regions.
Are calls made through Wi-Fi Calling free?
Yes, when they meet the terms of use. Otherwise, fees may apply. See terms of use and eligible countries and regions.
Is the quality of calls made through Wi-Fi Calling better than through the cellular network?
When you are indoors, Wi-Fi Calling often provides better audio quality if the Wi-Fi network is powerful enough.
When you’re outdoors or travelling, cellular calls are more reliable, especially when you’re on a 4G, 5G, or 5G+ network.
Conditions
1 Wi-Fi Calling service is offered to Videotron customers who own a device compatible with the aforementioned technology. To subscribe to this service, customers must activate the Wi-Fi Calling function in their device's settings, and accept the service's terms of use. Wi-Fi calls require a connection to a wired Wi-Fi network in order to allow for signal transmission; therefore, it is impossible to use Wi-Fi Calling when on-board means of transport (trains, buses, airplanes, boats, etc.), or to make Wi-Fi Calls using a shared connection. All use of the Wi-Fi Calling service will be deducted from the minutes included in your Mobile plan. If your plan does not include unlimited minutes, you may incur fees for exceeding minutes. Use of the Wi-Fi Calling service for video calling incurs Internet data consumption, which will be deducted from the Internet plan belonging to the Wi-Fi signal provider. Invoicing rules may vary according to the customer's location when making Wi-Fi calls. Specific limitations apply to Emergency 911 services.
