Port Fowarding Helix FI App
I have spent the better part of January 2024 trying to setup port forwarding on a handful of PC's. All are connected to the Helix TechnicolorCGM4140COM either through a switch or directly via RJ45 patch cable(s). Having been a Videotron / Helix customer for a number of years I have always known this process to be nightmarish. Three of the five devices that require ports to be forwarded are nowhere to be found when attemtpting to configure PF manually. By nowhere I am referring to both Connected Devices / Online Devices - Private Network and Offline Devices. What I find odd is that most of the devices that are available and "Connected to your WiFi" happen to be wireless devices. If only the app allowed for manual entry of the device's IP address directly when going to WiFi / Advanced settings / Port forwarding / Add Port Forward. Instead of Select the device for this port forward. Your time, patience, and assistance will be greatly appreciated.
can't access bing.com
I have a strange issue: 90% of the time I can't access bing.com when on videotron's helix wifi. It happens on all devices connected to my wifi. If I switch my cellphone to use telus's network, all works fine. I can't access bing.com, and then after a while I can access it again. Sometimes I can't access bing.com via edge but can via chrome, sometimes the other way around. soon after I can't access bing.com on either browser. Later that day it'll start working again on both. But most of the time it's inaccessible. All other sites I use work just fine, it's just bing.com that poses this strange problem
Does Videotron have plans to upgrade their network to a Fiber network?
I just switched from Videotron's Helix to Bell 1.5Gbps. The reason why I switched is because Bell made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Paying the same price for more bandwidth (I had 400mbps with Videotron), and 5 more channels for my tv. Quite frankly, the speed is an overkill. I think anything above 1Gbps is an overkill considering most homes can't really benefit from those speeds. Videotron at some point had gigabit services but they stopped offering it. I'm not sure why, as I've heard it works quite well. Where Videotron will always fail for me is the type of cable they use. I game a lot and Bell's FTTH gives me the best latency possible. Because of this, it's extremely difficult to switch back to cable. I find it difficult to ever move back to Videotron (provided that Bell's prices don't increase too much) and have a 10ms-30ms disadvantage when gaming, in addition to not having gigabit bandwidth. 10ms-30ms doesn't seem like much time, but when you're playing fast paced games like Call of Duty, it most certainly matters. The extra bandwidth helps downloading large sized games quicker. Does Videotron have any plans to upgrade their copper cable network to an FTTH fiber optic network sometime in the future?Téléchargement steam n'utilise pas plus de 15% de ma connection
Bonjour, Depuis quelques années, j'ai remarqué que tout téléchargement steam n'utilisait pas plus de 140mbps, alors que ma connection était de 400mbps et maintenant 940mbps. J'ai fais toutes les vérifications de limitage de connexion sur mon ordinateur, mais rien n'y fait.. Une personne en France qui télécharge depuis le serveur de Montréal à une vitesse de téléchargement 5x plus vite que le mien. En ce moment, il n'y a aucun autre utilisateur qui utilise l'internet. Mon routeur est le Hélix Fi 2.
Only IPv6 is working
I've tried power cycling and a factory reset my Helix modem to no avail. Only IPv6 supported websites are currently working for me such as some Google, Microsoft & Meta associated websites, some of Videotron's (such as the forum) and miscellaneous websites. Other services such as Steam (& video games), Amazon and Outlook on IPv4 cannot be accessed.Overage data fees credited if you have a power outage due to the ice storm
