I've had HELIX with GIGA speed for almost 3 years. So far, it's been pretty reliable but there are occasional interruptions and slowdowns. Certainly better than Illico. But over the last 2 months, I've been losing Internet or WiFi connections several times during the day. These are short disruptions...a minute or a few. Several times too the HELIX receivers can't connect to the gateway. But after a few minutes it's OK. It's become a real annoyance. So I called technical support last week. They told me right away that I have electromagnetic interference. Apparently, they have a tool that tells them this. Happens at fairly regular intervals not not exactly at predicable times and rarely overnight. But nothing has changed in my home. The gateway is still in the same place and nothing is blocking it. I haven't bought anything like a soundbar or smart TV or any new appliance. This problem has come out of nowhere. Maybe a neighbor? I live in brick a home and my neighbor's homes are all brick too. I have a hard time believing that's the cause. Anyone else have a similar problem? How do you go about finding the problem. The support guy said I could download the NetSpot app which I did. But I can't really figure out how this product works. Any one have experience with such a tool? If this continues, I'm going to Switch to Bell Fibre direct 3.0 Gbps.Solved33Views0likes4CommentsHelix not handing out IP addresses (DHCP issue)
Since Friday, our Helix is not handing out IP addresses anymore (over DHCP). Restarting the Helix did not help. As a workaround, we have manually configured the IPv4 address, subnet mask, gateway IP, and DNS IPs on our laptops (Windows and Linux). This works for now. Anybody else have this problem? Would be nice to get it fixed.Solved4.4KViews0likes4CommentsChannel surfing with Helix A must!
Hello, I know im not the first to complain but It cant hurt to keep this alive! I contacted support at least 4 months ago regarding this issue and still , nothing has been done. How can you sell a television system that doesn not allow you to surf your own channels???!!! Im getting tierd of using the guide to look for something to watch. I wish I took advantage of the 30day money back program cause now im stuck with 500$ worth of useless outside of a videotron environment equipment, non VPN router, and 2 tv terminals. On a side note, can you use this equipment for anything, like the tv terminals seem to be a raspberry Pi type system, can I format them and use them to my liking? And the router.. is that useable as a router off the videotron network?
MerciSolved73Views0likes2CommentsIssue with HELIX Recording Playback
With Helix, do all recorded programs start from the beginning when you play them again? I could swear that if you played a recorded show and paused it after X minutes, changed the channel and then came back to watch the recorded program, it would start from where you paused, not from the beginning. It is not doing that anymore. Was there a firmware update that changed this? I know for a fact that it was not always like this because I would record a sporting event and play it while watching another live show by going back and forth between the two. When I went back to play the recorded sporting event, it would play from where I paused. But now it always starts from the beginning of the recording.586Views2likes5CommentsHélix in Florida
Hi community. I am spending the winter in Florida. My helix is recording programs back home in Saint Jerome. When I try to watch my pre-recorded programs or live television here in Florida, I get an error message saying that I do not have access in this country. I have installed a VPN with an IP address in Montreal I still have no access to my recorded programming or live television. Has anyone found a workaround for this problem?535Views0likes2CommentsBlocked ports on Helix
I was surprised when I started looking at my firewall logs and doing test myself that it now seems that Helix is letting through some tcp & udp ports that were previously blocked in the past. Can someone from Videotron check if someone removed an ACL on your side? For example, I'm seeing that ports 80 & 443 are open now as from what I read here they should be blocked: https://forum.videotron.com/t5/internet-telephony/business-internet-port-block/td-p/22929#:~:text=Here%20are%20the%20ports%20that,)%2C%204444%20(BLASTER). I've been considering moving to Helix and have a few questions: - I have Videotron phone service through my Arris TM822 Cable modem - does the Helix unit have a battery backup as well for phone service? - I would like to put the Helix gateway in Bridge mode as I have a high end commercial grade router and wifi setup; does the Helix gateway provide a true public IP address in bridge mode or is giving out a private RFC1918 IP address? I would like to avoid double NATting. - In Bridge mode, is native IPv6 available? - If the technician were to give me the equipment to install myself and replace my TM822, would they also provide the security socket removal tool to remove the security sleeve from the coax? - Are the security sleeves still required with phone service? - I currently have 60/10 with my TM822 modem; would it be possible to upgrade to the 100mb Helix plan with my current equipment? - What is the current upload speed offered with the 100mb Helix plan? It is not listed on the website! Thanks!Solved9.5KViews1like5Comments
