Have you fallen out of love with your old phone? Thinking of getting a new model with the latest technology? Perhaps you want a 12-megapixel camera so you can be the king or queen of Instagram.

Surely you'd prefer a brand new device with the latest features and updates. But what to do with your old cell phone?

Selling your old cell phone: the pros outweigh the cons

Before we go any further, let’s make one thing clear: No, you don't need to keep an old phone in a drawer “just in case” your current phone dies and you feel a #FOMO attack coming on. Instead, it's much wiser to recycle any old devices you no longer use.

Before you type Facebook Marketplace in your browser, a word of caution: selling your used phone may seem like a tempting option, but it's far from ideal. Sure, you may end up with a few extra dollars in your pocket, but the process involves more effort on your part than simply visiting a store and recycling your device.

Selling to another individual can involve awkward and irritating situations: never-ending negotiations, a barrage of technical questions (which aren't always relevant)—and that's assuming your buyer shows up in the first place and doesn't change their mind two days later.

Finally, choosing an environmentally friendly solution like recycling will earn you something priceless: the eternal gratitude of future generations.

What to do before bidding a final farewell to your old phone

So, you've decided to take advantage of our exchange offer and you're excited about your new device. We're excited too!

But suddenly, panic sets in. Will you manage to learn the phone's interface? Will you lose all the data you've accumulated for so many years? It's completely legitimate to have these concerns.

But don't fret. Interfaces are becoming more and more user-friendly. If you've owned a cell phone before, getting used to a new one shouldn't take you more than a day or two.

As for retaining your data, we've assembled some tips to help you ensure a smooth and worry-free transition.

Several solutions are available for transferring data to a new device, as explained by our Videotron Pro:

Lost in the clouds?

Choose the solution that best suits your needs (or ask for advice on our forum) and your data will be safe and sound, whether it's the contacts you made at that boozy after-work social, your text message history with your mom, your best selfies or the favourite songs you've “Shazamed” over the years.

Once you've transferred all your important data to a safe location, you can restart your device and access your data with peace of mind.

For iPhone devices, follow these steps:

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

(Don't forget to turn off Find My iPhone)

For Android, go to:

Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset > Reset phone.

Finally, on Windows Mobile, go to:

Settings > About > Reset your phone.

There are plenty of resources online, so if you do a bit of research you'll probably find answers to any additional questions not addressed here.

Don't hesitate to visit one of our locations to ask about our exchange offer. A representative will be happy to guide you through the process. Find a store : https://magasins.videotron.com/
