Battery Life: How to Get the Most Out of Your Mobile Phone

There are lots of things you can do to make sure the battery in your cell phone or tablet lasts all day. It’s all about optimizing the settings. Whether it’s for work or play, here are a few tips that will help you get the most out of your device.

1. Brightness: Tone it down!

Pay attention to how bright your screen is, since this has a major impact on your battery life. If you’d like the brightness to adjust to ambient lighting conditions, select the “Automatic” setting. Your device will use light sensors to determine the right level of brightness.

2. Don’t make your smartphone think too hard

Three aspects you should keep under control:

• Wi-Fi
• Bluetooth
• Positioning (GPS)

If you leave these options activated, they will drain your cell’s battery throughout the day. Why? Because your phone will constantly search for opportunities to connect to nearby Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Your phone’s vibrate function can also use a lot of juice, especially if you receive many messages or calls.

3. Deactivate mobile data

Another smart tip is to turn off mobile data when you don’t need it. The same goes for your email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media apps. If they remain activated, they will continue to let you know every time you get a new message or notification. By disabling them when they’re not needed, you can prolong your battery’s life.

4. Go low power

All smartphones and tablets come with a low power or battery saver mode that turns off applications that use up too much power. Your email, messages and other synched applications won’t be updated unless you open them. 

5. Keep an eye on the weather

Yes, the weather can actually affect your battery life. When it’s cold, expect your battery to drain faster. That means that you should avoid leaving your device in the car on cold winter days, lest you come back to find it out of battery.

6. Plug it in

Don’t believe the myth: You don’t have to wait until your lithium battery is empty before recharging it. On the contrary, it’s a good idea to plug in your device whenever you can. This type of battery needs to be charged as often as possible.
