The new year is here, and with it a new generation of Samsung Galaxy phones! Once again, the South Korean manufacturer is pushing performance to new heights with the Galaxy S25 series. Read on for more on the latest innovations and our take on these three new models.

Our review

With the Galaxy S25 series, Samsung has leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) to create phones designed for the future, but made for everyday life. Beyond the powerful processor, impressive camera and video performance in low light or noisy conditions, and refreshing round-edged design, it’s the expertly integrated AI features that really steal the show. Advances on high-end phones in recent years have been driven in large part by AI integration, much of it the result of increased collaboration with Google’s Gemini AI. While the hardware upgrades on the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra remain rather modest, the software innovations incorporated into these phones make them a top choice if you’re in the market for a state-of-the-art mobile solution.

Strengths

Advanced AI integration. Galaxy AI, which was introduced last year on the S24 line and certain earlier devices, is now paired with Gemini to provide features in 45 languages. One of the most interesting of these is the ability to access AI by pressing and holding the side power button. You can then use vocal commands to easily navigate your phone or get answers to your questions. For example, you can ask your device to find a sushi restaurant that offers local delivery, then send the information to a friend. Where you once had to use multiple apps, you now only need one. This seamless integration makes AI increasingly handy for everyday use.

Example of a device search using artificial intelligence

Video noise reduction. Samsung’s new Audio Eraser tool allows you to “erase” unwanted sounds from the videos you record. That way, you keep what you want to hear and reduce the rest. For example, you can isolate a person’s voice, mute loud talkers, or reduce wind and crowd noise. This feature will appeal to those who like to keep video memories of their nights out at restaurants, concerts, festivals, and so on.

Sharper nighttime video. The Galaxy S series is well known for its nighttime photography capabilities. The new Galaxy S25 series takes things up a notch, with nighttime videos that are less grainy. See our 6 tips to take great photos at night.

Enhanced selfies. The S25’s advanced portrait features make skin tone and texture look more natural thanks to Galaxy AI, which intelligently captures ambient light. That means fewer touch-ups—yesss! You can also create your own filters, a cool option for creative photographers.

Battery life. According to Samsung, the Galaxy S25 Ultra comes equipped with the longest-lasting battery the company has ever made. The 5000 mAh battery has a custom optimization feature to boost autonomy. The result? Up to 31 hours of video playback. The Ultra’s two companion models are no slouches either, with 29 hours and 30 hours of playback for the S25 and the S25+ respectively.

Processor power. More advanced AI integration requires a processor capable of seamlessly handling complex tasks. That’s why Samsung has equipped the S25 line with the Snapdragon 8® Elite for Galaxy. This processor lets you navigate between apps with no lag. Lower latency and outstanding responsiveness make these phones especially attractive for mobile gameplay.

Personalized information with Now Brief. More than ever, our mobile devices serve as personal assistants. The Now Brief feature displays information about the day ahead or summarizes the one just ended. Push notifications on your device change depending on the time of day to help you stay ahead of the curve. For example, if there’s rain in the forecast, your device will remind you to bring an umbrella before you go out. Thanks to AI, the Now Brief feature takes data aggregation from multiple apps to new levels of everyday convenience.

Larger display on Galaxy S25 Ultra. The narrow borders maximize the visual impact of this flagship model’s 6.9-inch display. Images are vivid and realistic, and shadows well defined. Again, these features make this device an attractive option for gameplay.

Health monitoring. Using connected accessories like the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring, you can track your Energy Score on your phone. These accessories collect data on your sleep, activities, and previous day’s heart rate and send it to your phone. Your phone calculates an “Energy Score” when you wake up in the morning, which you can refer to to help balance your day’s activities.

Weaknesses

Loss of S Pen functionality. On the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the S Pen has lost the Bluetooth (Air Actions) capabilities available with the previous model. In other words, you can no longer use the S Pen to take photos, adjust music volume, or otherwise control your apps remotely.

Base model similar to previous generation. From a hardware perspective, the Galaxy S25 is very similar to the Galaxy S24: it has the same camera, battery, and display size and brightness. You’ll need the S25+ or S25 Ultra to notice a real difference in terms of hardware. That said, software enhancements such as optimized battery life do boost device performance compared to the previous generation.

Conservative storage capacity. The storage capacity of Galaxy’s S line phones hasn’t increased significantly over the past two years. The Galaxy S25 and S25+ are available with 128 GB or 256 GB of storage, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra with 256 GB or 512 GB. That’s comparable to other phones on the market, but as device capabilities improve—and files and apps grow in size as a result—extra storage capacity would provide peace of mind.

Ergonomics and design

With its rounder design, the Galaxy S25 line offers better handling than previous generations, especially the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is 15% thinner than its predecessor. The S25 and S25+ models have an aluminum frame, while the S25 Ultra is made with titanium.

Device colours are cool and muted, with a pleasing, marine-inspired palette! The S25 and S25+ are available in Silver Shadow, Navy, Icyblue, and Mint. The S25 Ultra comes in Titanium Black, Titanium Grey, Titanium Whitesilver, and Titanium Silverblue.

Performance

In designing a phone boasting advanced integrated AI features and offering a premium mobile gaming experience, Samsung had no choice but to incorporate a high-performance processor. The Snapdragon® 8 Elite processor that powers the S25 really delivers. The phone runs on Android 15 and One UI 7, designed for AI. We also like the fact that security updates are included for seven years.

In terms of autonomy, the battery optimization software on the Galaxy S25 Ultra can extend battery life by as much as two hours over the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, you’ll need to opt for one of the two top models to get optimum battery capacity, as the Galaxy S25 base model comes with a 4000 mAh battery, compared to 4900 mAh on the S25+, and 5000 mAh on the S25 Ultra.

An AI assistant in your pocket

Whether it’s for handling everyday tasks, creating content or playing mobile games, the three Galaxy S25 models will serve you well. As you’ll soon see, it doesn’t take long to get used to having an AI assistant at your service! And the more you use it, the better it will understand your queries. The good news is that you can access these new features regardless of your budget, as they are available on all three Galaxy S25 models.
