"Bitcoins" are mined using supercomputers that work to solve almost impossible mathematical equations. It takes a huge amount of processing power. Computers built to mine cryptocurrency cost over $ 5,000.

Instead of buying these computers, cyber criminals kidnap computers from random people to do the work for them.

A malicious code is available on the Dark Web for $ 20-30, and it's easy for a hacker and for identity theft to launch a program that installs it on a remote computer. It can even be installed on a computer sharing the same public WiFi network.

Many Web sites have encryption software that will use the computer's additional resources linking to the site.
